In which the author realizes the limits of words on a page.
Another interview transcript whisked away by carrier pigeon this AM – this time my chat with one of the people responsible for My So-Called Life's iconic look: Patrick Norris. And let me say right at the outset that I feel like I'm doing you all a huge disservice.
"How so," you ask. "We barely know you, Aaron; our expectations for you couldn't be lower." Fair point.
"Today it blows my mind that anyone would even want to talk about flannel shirts anymore."
I say I'm doing you a disservice because words on paper alone don't do Patrick Norris justice – he's the type of person whose warmth and passion for what he does comes out in the way he speaks, peppered as it is with a '60s and '70s idiom, and his own humble gratitude for the opportunities he's enjoyed during a career that spans nearly 50 years.
Ever since getting his directorial break on the MSCL episode "Resolutions," Patrick's directed everything from Dawson's Creek and Gossip Girl to 2019's Dickinson and Parenthood.
